There is countless data piled up in the world we live in and even more is being produced endlessly at this moment right now. The basic of informatics is to discover and use meaningful information from this piled data, like finding a jewel from a mine.
Based on the research team of Seoul National University College of Medicine/Dentistry that shared this purpose, a group of bioinformatics/system was made, and the data handled according to the research topic of each team is based on biosystem data such as DNA, thousands of medical records and clinical test data that come out daily from the patients of Seoul National University hospital.
Currently our medical community needs an expert that can reproduce medical knowledge and return it to the society. Bioinformatics major can be divided into medical informatics which can realize personalized medicine that makes the precise diagnosis, prescription, prediction through personal medical records, and bioinformatics that attempts to develop medicine by discovering meaningful knowledge hidden inside the genomic structure. Through research of this field, students will be able to learn expertise that opens a new prospect in life science.
